Things to do in Trujillo, Peru

With a population of about 1 million inhabitants, Trujillo is the third largest city of Peru, showcasing a nice old town with a suite of colonial buildings in the otherwise busy and congested typical coastal urban setting.

Tourist Attractions Trujillo, Peru

At a distance of 560 km from Lima, the city was built on the banks of the Moche River, near where it runs into the Pacific Ocean. The Moche Valley was the cradle of the famous prehistoric Moche and Chimu cultures that flourished before the Inca conquest. The two tourist atractions Trujillo, Peru,  are the pre-Columbian monuments:

  • Chan Chan, the largest adobe city in the ancient world, designated a World Heritage Site; and

  • The temples of the Sun and of the Moon, the latter being the largest (but hardly investigated) adobe pyramid in Peru.

There is an abundance of things to do in Trujillo, Peru, which is expressed in a variety of cultural festivals, such as the "National Marinera Festival", the "Trujillo Spring Festival" and the "International Book Festival".

Old town Trujillo features colonial buildings surrounding the Plaza de las Armas, often with wrought ironwork and elaborate wooden balconies. The pearl of the colonial buildings it the Cathedras with its Archbishop's palace next door.
